Second Grade for Parents

Currently, the second grade at Chairville School consists of three sections. All instruction follows the Board of Education approved Curriculum.

Reading and Language Arts

The subjects of reading and language arts are integrated into the curriculum as appropriate with a balanced approach that emphasizes phonics, phonemic awareness and comprehension strategies.

Spelling

The Rebecca Sitton Spelling program focuses on students spelling frequently used words correctly in their everyday writing.

Math

Math Trailblazers is the district's K-5 mathematics program.. The foundation of each unit is that math concepts and skills are acquired through active involvement in problem solving.

Science

The teachers in grade 2 use the science unit from Scott Foresman.

Social Studies

The second grade social studies program provides the students with experiences that increase their ability to learn about themselves and the world they live in.

Technology

Students have access to a computer lab and will have the opportunity to become computer literate and proficient in the use of computers.

A variety of activities are offered to our second grade students to extend the basic curriculum. They visit the media center on a regular basis, attend school programs and go on field trips.
